types of massage therapy we offer
Acupressure
Developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago, acupressure is the most ancient of healing therapies utilizing the finger tips to stimulate prompt healing within the body. Similar to acupuncture, acupressure uses the same energy points on the body. Acupressure is very beneficial as it can relieve pain and bring the body back into balance. Acupressure’s healing ability promotes stress reduction, improves circulation, relaxes the body and strengthens the immune system. Acupressure can effectively be used to alleviate acute and chronic conditions such as arthritis, headaches, spinal-muscular pain, and sinus complications. Also a preventative therapy, acupressure is good for fatigue as well. Overall, acupressure is an excellent holistic healing therapy that promotes balance among mind, body, and spirit.
Chinese Massage (Tui Na)
Tui Na is a therapeutic massage technique rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It works by applying pressure to specific points along energy channels, similar to acupuncture but using the hands instead of needles. By stimulating blood flow and releasing blockages, Tui Na can help alleviate:
- Pain and inflammation
- Stress and anxiety
- Fatigue and insomnia
- Digestive problems
- Female health issues
- Fibromyalgia
Deep Tissue
Unlike classic massage therapy, which is used for relaxation, deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deep layers of muscle and connective tissue to address chronically tense and contracted areas. It can also be used to address specific health concerns related to chronic pain, mobility limiations, injuries or strains, posture issues, ostearthritis, and reoccuring muscle tension.
Whenever there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, which limits movement and increases inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement via slowly applied, increased pressure to reach these deeper layers.
It is normal to experience mild stiffness and/or pain after a deep tissue massage, and it should subside within a day or so.
Hot Stone
Hot stone massage is a therapeutic technique utilizing heat through a series of smooth, dense stones varying in temperature from 32–140°F. Hot stones are carefully applied to specific body parts to help release muscle tension and reduce muscoskeletal pain.
Hot stone massage is typically performed in the same way as a general therapeutic massage session, and many clients convey feelings of rejuvenation and increased energy levels afterward.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release therapy is a gentle technique that addresses tension in the connective tissue (fascia). By applying sustained pressure and stretches, it helps to release restrictions, improve flexibility, and alleviate pain — restoring balance nad improving overall well-being.
Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears. Based on the belief that these points correspond to various organs and body systems, reflexology can help:
- Reduce stress: Alleviate tension and promote relaxation.
- Restore balance: Encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
- Identify stress areas: Locate areas of tension or imbalance in the body.
While reflexology is not a cure-all, it can be a valuable tool for managing stress and supporting overall well-being.
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a relaxing bodywork technique that focuses on relieving muscle tension. Inspired by ancient Chinese Tui Na, it combines deep pressure and rhythmic strokes to:
- Improve circulation: Enhance blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to muscles while removing waste products.
- Accelerate recovery: Reduce muscle soreness and inflammation after injuries or strenuous activity.
- Increase flexibility: Stretch ligaments and tendons, improving range of motion.
- Promote well-being: Stimulate the skin and nervous system, fostering relaxation and emotional balance.
